Safely arrived in Jordan

After leaving OHare at 5:30 pm on Saturday, we arrived in Amman, Jordan at approximately 3:00 pm on Sunday.  We flew through Vienna, Austria but only viewed the inside of the terminal.   The flights were uneventful and calm, but we didn't get to sleep as much as we would have liked.

The Queen Alia airport of Amman appears to be in the middle of a desert and we had about a 45 minute bus ride from the airport to our hotel.  All of the buildings and most of the terrain are the same color - a light sandstone.  Our hotel is nice and modern.  For dinner we had rice, beef, Mediterranean type salad, and traditional bread.

The people seem friendly and some do speak English, which is great since we don't speak any Arabic!  We have observed a variety of attire, with some men wearing the traditional long robes and most of the men wearing Western style clothes.  More of the women have traditional robes and scarves that cover their heads.  We have seen a few women wearing the total black attire where you can only see their eyes.  Some women are completely Western in style.

Tomorrow we are going to see Mt Nebo, where Moses was buried, and the famous city of Petra.
